Upcoming Trips and Events

2 Star assesment trip- The trip went very well, everyone enjoyed it and was very tired by the end. Here is a picture of everyone who went on the trip.
18/19th July- Tryweyn weekend- This trip will be a whole weekend at the National White Water Centre on the river Tryweryn. The Tryweryn is dam released so if there is no release this weekend it will have to be re-scheduled, changed to a different location or cancelled. Releases are pretty reliable in summer weekends though.
The Tryweryn is split into 2 section, the upper and lower. The upper is continuous grade 3/4 and is therefore only suitable for those with a reasonlably solid white water roll and a reasonable level of white water experience. The lower section is mostly grade 2/3- with an easily portaged grade 3/4 right at the end.
The plan is to leave on the Saturday morning and start off with a trip of the lower section, then in the afternoon take our time running the top section. All rapids on the top section are easily portaged. On the second day we will start off with a trip down the top section but upon reaching the end the group will split in two. Whoever wants to staying on the top section and the rest continuing down the bottom section.
This means it is possible for less experienced paddlers to come and still get on the river on both days for a decent length trip. Alternatively people are welcome to come up for just the day and meet us there in order to just do one run of the lower section.
The Tryweryn is right next to Snowdonia so there is plenty of walking/cycling to be done so paddling isn't your only option. If bringing the family, a small amount of the weekend needs to be taken up by kayaking. Alternatively if you like the idea of following along the footpaths and acting photo monkey for everyone on the top section then great ;)

Safety rules & considerations: All under 18s must wear a buoyancy aid during the paddle stage. Any competitor passing another who has got into obvious difficulty must stop to assist them. Failure to do so may result in disqualification. Consideration will be given time taken to do this and finish time amended accordingly. If in the unlikely event that river is running high, the organisers may limit the entry or cancel the event. Whilst we endeavour to make the race as safe as possible, competitors race at their own risk.
23rd August, Melksham fun race day- we don't have all the details yet, but there is going to be a fun day at Wilts Youth Canoe Club in Melksham on 23rd August. The main activities will be a series of low key races. Wilts Youth have two 4 man junior racing kayaks as well as some doubles and singles for people to try. The four man boats are very fast and great fun, yet they are quite stable too. If you want to give this a try let us know, maybe we can put together some teams! As we get more details, we'll send them out.
29/30th August Chippenham River Festival- Lots of stuff going on in town + the club is getting involved in the Dragon boat races: Entry fee per team member = £20.00
Each participant is required to raise a minimum of £20.00 for charity.
we will require a £10.00 deposit from prospective team members (refundable if you are not selected for the team). let us know if you fancy it!

Trip Reports
This link takes you to a page with previous trip reports. All are written in a very casual manor! These are not reports of all our trips by a long shot but give a good idea from a range of different rivers of different difficulties (plus they are fun to read esp. if you know the people in them!). Enjoy!!!
